Ingredients

Melomakarona with walnuts

For the dough
2 glasses olive oil
1 glass sugar
1/2 glass water
1 tablespoon honey
1 glass orange juice
and cinnamon for dredging
1 teaspoon baking soda
Orange rind, freshly grated
1 teaspoon cinnamon and cloves
1 teaspoon ammonia
1 glass walnuts, coarsely ground
Flour, as much as it takes

For the syrup
1 glass water
1 glass sugar
1 glass honey
walnuts, coarsely ground

Preparation

Beat the olive oil with the sugar; then add the water, the cinnamon, the cloves, the baking soda dissolved in orange juice, the honey, the grated orange rind, the walnuts and the flour and knead into a soft dough. Then, form oval shaped cookies and bake them at a moderate temperature. Let them cool. Meanwhile boil the syrup over low heat and immerse the melomakarona in it. Let them soak for one minute and then remove them and place them on a serving platter. Sprinkle the melomakarona with cinnamon and walnuts.
